What paper is used to print game cards?

At Ivory, we understand that the tactile experience of handling cards is integral to the enjoyment and functionality of any card game, be it a traditional game, a strategic board game, or an innovative new concept. That’s why, we meticulously choose our materials to ensure they not only meet but exceed our clients' expectations for quality, durability, and sustainability.

To produce game cards, we primarily use high-quality, FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) certified card stock. This certification ensures that the paper comes from forests that are managed responsibly, supporting our commitment to environmental sustainability. Our standard card stock is a 310gsm Heretic, renowned for its excellent handling properties, resilience, and flexibility. This makes it an ideal choice for cards that are meant to be shuffled, dealt, and enjoyed over many years.

For clients seeking an extra layer of durability and a premium finish, we also offer thicker cardstocks; 300gsm Zanta and 350gsm Zanta. These materials are not fully opaque when held up to light but are more resistant to wear and tear and perfect for cards that are designed to be handled by children.

We also offer a range of other paper options, including heavier or lighter weights and different finishes, to suit various types of card games and customer preferences. Our innovative prototyping service allows creators to test and refine their card pack with these different materials before committing to final production, ensuring the end product is perfectly suited to their vision and market demands.

This stage is crucial for gathering feedback, identifying any potential improvements, and making necessary adjustments. Our test pack service is designed to be iterative, allowing for refinements to ensure the final product is exactly as you envisioned.
